SKI and SERVE

short term mission

If you love skiing and you love Jesus, then Altitude Mission is the place for you.  It’s about serving God in the mountains and having a lot of fun in His playground.  You can stay for a week or more, and you’ll get stuck in to mission, be part of a community on fire for Jesus, you’ll worship, pray and ski.  Now that’s skiing with a purpose!

CHALET ALTITUDE

Chalet Altitude is just up the hill from Meribel Centre, with 11 bedrooms, a beautiful fire-lit lounge, and large dining space. All our guest rooms are twin bedrooms, all with en-suite shower-rooms. You will be living in the chalet with our Altituders. The chalet is fully catered with hot breakfast, afternoon tea, and 2-course evening meal (6 nights). On one night each week you are welcome to eat out or cook for yourself.

You can come on your own, in a couple, or a group - whether from church or friends. Maximum group size is 6.

There is a large dining area, and a comfortable living room with open fireplace + free wifi. We have a chalet dog, called Lily, who is very friendly, and a regular at the slope-side bars with us.

The centre of Meribel is just a 4-minute walk downhill, and the ski slopes just a couple of minutes beyond that. Or we are right by a bus-stop which takes you to the slopes without the walking! Once you’ve got your skis on, you’ve got easy access to the slopes of Meribel, Mottaret, Courchevel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires, and a fourth Valley at Les Orelles.

WHAT WILL YOUR STAY BE LIKE?

  • If you’re here on Short Term Mission and staying with us at Chalet Altitude you’ll be a Ski & Server.  And, as the name suggests, that means you’re here to ski and to serve.  What does serving look like?  This depends on you and your gifts.  It could be be joining our worship team, helping wash up after dinner, or maybe lead a Bible study.  Perhaps you’re a BBQ wizard and would help flip 200 burgers for our legendary Beer & Burgers evening.  There are so many ways to serve, and we’ll contact you before your trip to find out where you’d like to help.

  • We always make sure you have plenty of time for skiing.  You can always get first lifts, and ski till your heart sings and your legs are jelly!  The Three Valleys is the largest ski area in the world, with 600km of slopes to explore and we just love to get out and enjoy God’s creation.  There’s skiing for all standards from beginner to off-piste. You can ski with us, with your friends, or head off solo for a bit of one-to-one ski time with God.

  • You’re here to Ski & Serve, and the clever thing is, doing that will replenish your spirit.  But just to make sure you get fully topped up, there’s plenty of worship, prayer and Bible time too.  We kickstart each week with communion and worship, we worship at church, we worship in our upper room by the fireside, we gather each morning before breakfast for bible and prayer time, we eat together in community, and we spend loads of time in fellowship.  You’ll go home with your spirit simply soaring.

  • Where You’ll Stay

Ski & Serve at Chalet Altitude. A 22-bed chalet in the centre of Meribel, with 6 beds each week available for Ski & Servers.  You’ll share with another Ski & Server in a twin room with an en-suite shower-room and toilet.  You’ll live in community with the Altituders and the Altitude Team.  The chalet has easy access to the slopes, either by bus or it’s a five minute walk.  We eat breakfast and dinner all together six days a week and you’ll find a cake waiting for you after skiing each day.  There is a chalet rest day when you can help yourself to breakfast, and enjoy a dinner out, or leftovers.  You have the option to make a baguette sandwich each day for lunch at a cost of £4 (cheapest lunch on the mountain!).

Stay in Meribel and join us at Chalet Altitude for community and worship. If you’d prefer to do things your way, or if we’re already full, there’s plenty of accommodation available in Meribel from basic self-catered apartments, to full-on luxury catered chalets with hot-tubs.  Whatever you choose, you can join us for dinner, for worship, for church, and enjoy being part of a Christian community whilst on your skiing holiday.  We have a vision that Meribel would become the place for Christians to gather and ski together.

  • Ski and Serve Mission – You can stay for one or many weeks, subject to us having availability. Accommodation is in twin rooms, with en-suite shower rooms. Accommodation is half board, with Breakfast, Afternoon tea and 2 Course Dinner provided 6 days a week. We have up to 6 beds available per week. We ask for a contribution to cover our chalet rent, utility bills and food costs.

Ski and Serve Mission contribution - The minimum contribution we require is £695 per week per person which is the basic price to stay at Chalet Altitude and covers the cost of our rent, utility bills and food.  If you feel called to contribute more than that, this will go towards our day-to-day costs of simply running the mission.

“I just wanted to say how thankful I am to you this season. You have been like Angels to me. Thank you for such a welcome, open chalet and the respite that has provided.”
