Love God + Love Skiing = Altitude Mission

Stay for one week, two weeks, a month, or the whole winter season

Altitude Mission is all about mission in the mountains.

It’s all about challenging perceptions of what being a Christian is like.

It’s about being counter-cultural in today’s world..

Altitude Mission is happening in Meribel this winter, in the French Alps, and we want you to be a part of it.

It’s about taking one small un-used stone and wooden chapel in the centre of the ski resort, opening the doors wide, and filling it with worship.

And it’s about building friendships and community.

It’s about being salt and light on the hill.

Come and join us in the stunning French Alps and get closer to God:

Let’s live together, worship together, ski together and pray together.

We’ll hear from inspirational speakers in our chalet, we’ll do après-ski with the likes of Lindz West from LZ7 (February 2020), learn chairlift evangelism with Julio Abraham or just be a part of God’s plan in Meribel

You’ll live in our 24-bed Chalet Altitude surrounded by other Christians and non-christian guests.  Your resident cook will serve up breakfast, an afternoon cake, and two course dinner 5 nights a week and you’ll help prepare pizzas for the Open House pizza and beer night.

Ideal for church groups, or just come on your own or with a friend.

Short-term Mission

This is ideal if you’d love to come and serve in the mountains, but you can’t spare a whole winter season.  You can come for a week, two weeks, a month or longer.  You get all the benefits of staying in our catered chalet with the Altituders and other guests.

You’ll come to serve, to ski, and to enjoy God’s playground!  You’ll be living in a chalet with 23 other Christians and non-Christian guests, you’ll enjoy great fellowship and meet some inspirational Christian leaders.
It’s the perfect opportunity for church groups – we have up to 12 beds available per week, in twin en-suite bedrooms. You are also very welcome to bring non-Christian guests as part of your group.

We’d love worship leaders to come and help lead worship in our Sunday evening service at the church, our Sunday morning informal service at an apes-ski bar, in the chalet, and on a mountain top.

If you can ski well, we’d love you to be a Ski Angel, helping people down from the après-ski bars.  If you don’t ski well, you can base yourself at the Ronnie which is on a bus route or provide prayer support for the Ski Angel teams from the chalet.

We’d love you to spend time in our 24-7 prayer room – we want to cover Meribel in prayer for the whole season.

If you’d like to come and serve, to follow God’s call, and to do mission with us in Meribel then do get in touch.  We want to grow God’s kingdom in the mountains.  Help us in the church on a Sunday, lead our Bible study, help make pizzas. There’s so much need out here, we’d love you to come and get stuck in.

And there’s so much beauty out here – spend your days discovering the 3 Valleys, on stunning, corduroy pistes or venture off-piste with a guide.  You can sign up to lessons or try a different discipline. (Ski guides and instructors fees not included in the price).  Be a light on the hill, as you chat to people in bubble cars or on a chairlift.

You can come for as short or as long as you like.  Please contact us to check what availability we have.

Typical GUEST Day

Days will start with breakfast and a prayer for the day. We will take it in turns to help the cook with setting up breakfast and everyone will help clear away and make their picnic if they want one. (Baguette, cheese and ham are €2 per day).

Then for those that want to, we’ll head up onto the slopes.  It’s a short walk from the chalet to the slopes, so you can head out in your own time, or we can ski together as a group.

Some days we will all try and meet for a picnic lunch on the mountain or grab a legendary mountain burger from Chez Bif.  If there are non-skiers staying with us, we can make sure we choose a place accessible on foot. This is also a good chance to meet up with the Richmond chalet chaplains, workers and guests.

You can ski all day if you want – the skiing and the mountains in the 3 Valleys are awesome – or come back to the chalet for some chill time.

In the late afternoon/evenings there will be a whole range of activities. These may include

  • Ski Angels at the Folie Douce
  • An après-ski meet-up in one of the local bars – this is a chance for us to be a Christian presence out in resort.  It won’t be hard-sell evangelism, but just getting out there, and being seen, going where God wants us to go.
  • A pizza and beer evening at our chalet open to all.
  • Serving at our church service in the Meribel chapel – on welcome, or worship, or leading prayers.
  • Serving at our planned Sunday morning “Pop up church” in an après-ski bar. This is in the developmental stage and aims to be a unique way of doing ‘church’.
  • Praying in our 24-7 Prayer Room
  • Bible study
  • Meeting with our visiting ski chaplains who are inspiring Christian leaders in their field.
  • Our mission will be very much God-led.
  • On 5 evenings a week, your chalet cook will prepare a 2-course evening meal for you.  We will take it in turns to help the cook with meal preparation.  Everyone will help tidy away, wash up and lay the table for breakfast after the meal.
